Skip to Flicker

No, this isn’t related to everyone’s favourite photo sharing site, but rather a minor annoyance occurring on a slowly increasing number of websites.

It all starts innocently and with good intentions. Designers, with accessibility in mind, place links at the top of their site pages that allow you to “Skip to Content” or “Skip to Search”. All good so far. In fact, I’ve added just such a link to this very site.

Matching Boxes

Moving from table layouts to CSS-based layouts, we occassionally need to recreate the effect of boxes of content that remain the same size, even when they contain different amounts of text.

Using table cells for layout, its very easy to ensure that the two boxes will always exactly the same height as, no matter how much text is placed within each box, the height of the row expands to contain the content.
